U16 v Bury

1st pre season under 16s friendly against Bury – report

With school holidays now coming to an end its back to business for the girls of WALFC U16’s.

Today saw the girls facing a BURY team who play in the South Manchester Girls Football League.

Wigan, missing just Olivia and Becks from the starting line up came up against a strong start from the Bury team.

After 10 mins, Bury’s pressure paid off and went 1-0 up.

After 20 mins….went 2-0 up…..looking like it was going to be a bad day at the office.

With a mountain to climb….the girls dug deep and from this point turned the game around.

Nobody should underestimate these girls.

Beth brought the score back level with two great goals….one being a perfect lob over the keeper to the top right hand corner of the net (Eve assisting with the perfect pass).

Eve then went on to put Latics 3-2 in front with a super solo effort.

In the closing stages of the first half, Bury leveled the game to 3-3 only to conceed almost immediately to a great run on the wing from defence from Emily W to take Latics into the half time break 4-3 up.

In the second half Wigan went from strength to strength.

Freya made it 5-3 after picking up a thru ball.

Ellie M scored twice to make it 7-3

Sam was denied a goal after her shot came off the post….but made up for that by providing an assist for Beth to grab her hat-trick…making it 8-3.

Sam went on to get the goal she deserved to make it 9-3.

It seemed all too much for the Bury team with the fluency of the Wigan passes and defensive domination.

Eventually Bury did manage to break through…Rebeka pulling of some brilliant saves before eventually conceding her first goal of the game.9-4.

Emily S scored late in the game to make it 10-4

Bury scoring short of the final whistle bringing what was a great game to 10-5.

Great performance by every one of the girls today.

BETH 3 goals

EVE 1 goal

EMILY W 1 goal

FREYA 1 goal

ELLIE M 2 goals

SAM 1 goal
