1st Half

On a hot sunny afternoon Wigan Athletic Ladies U15’s lined up to play Birkdale in the final game of the season. 

Wigan struggling to get a team together called upon the help of the Charlotte Hull to play again for the second time in a week. Wigan started the first half and immediately a ball was passed up field to Beth who shot on goal only for the goal keeper to save the ball.

Wigan continued to pile the pressure on and the midfield of Charlotte, Helena, Rachel and Ashley all playing some neat footwork only to be stopped by the Birkdale defence Wigan continued to work hard this paid off when Charlotte Foley cleverly chipped the ball over the back line and Beth Anderton followed the ball to put it over the Birkdale keeper

1-0 to Wigan.

Birkdale continued to attack and Wigan were forced back this allowed Birkdale to capitalise and an uncleared ball allowed Birkdale to shoot and score

1-1.

Wigan made a change in formation to go back to

4-4-2 this seem to work and had an immediate effect passing from left to right this allowed the

2 strikers Beth and Ashley to make some good runs.

A blistering run from Ashley neat pass to Beth who shot towards goal was deflected out only for charlotte Foley to follow up and put it passed the Birkdale keeper.

2nd Half

Wigan came out after the break looking to seal this game only put on the back foot from a physical Birkdale team Wigan had to work hard and the defence of Lauren, Jess, Charlotte W and

Charlotte H all had work very hard to keep Birkdale at bay.

Wigan began to realise that this game was not won and all girls had to up there game to prevent Birkdale from scoring. A blistering run from Ashley Kearsley and a fantastic finish gave Wigan a 3-1 lead.

Birkdale continued to pile the pressure on and in the last couple of minutes of the game were awarded a penalty for hand ball Birkdale placed the ball into the net 3-2 to Wigan.

                                                                           

Manager Martin commented on there performance, Wigan can be very pleased with the performance today all the girls worked extra hard having no subs today they deserved this win well done to the girls.

1st Half

On a hot sunny afternoon Wigan Athletic Ladies U15’s lined up to play Bleakhill. Wigan struggling to get a team together called upon the help of the U14’s of which Mel and Megan kindly volunteered to play 11 a-side. Wigan started the first half and immediately were put on the back foot from a physical and well organised Bleakhill team. Wigan’s defence had to work very hard to keep Bleakhill at bay. 

A blistering run from Ashley Kearsley gave Wigan

their first opportunity on goal, only to be cut out by

a Bleakhill defender. Wigan’s defence of Lauren, Jess, Rebecca and Megan all had their work cut out to keep Bleakhill from scoring.

However as the Bleakhill pressure was mounting this was only a matter of time and 10 minutes into the game an uncleared ball allowed Bleakhill to capitalise and fire a shot passed Hannah in the Wigan goal 1-0 to Bleakhill. 3 minutes later a well worked ball from Charlotte Foley, Helena and Rachel set Mel up to equalise 1-1.

Wigan upped their game and made some great

moves and forward runs only to see their efforts

saved by the goalkeeper.  Half-time score 1-1.

                                          

2nd half

Wigan began to realise that this game was not lost and pressed forward at every opportunity with Rachel, Ashley and Mel having chances. Wigan tried hard to make chances only for Bleakhill to intercept and score 2-0 to Bleakhill.

Wigan did not give up and continued to play their game passing and moving only to be muscled off the ball by the Bleakhill players. With the girls tiring and with no subs to bring on the midfield where finding it hard to control the game and Bleakhill pushed forward and netted a 3rd and 4th within a couple of minutes. A couple of minutes from time a loose ball was intercepted by Bleakhill of which they scored a 5th.

Wigan can very pleased with the performance today all the girls worked extra hard having no subs today.

GIRL OF THEMATCH: Jess Seddon had an excellent game.

1st Half 

On a cold and foggy morning Wigan started the game slowly having not played or trained for 5 weeks. Wigan sat back and let the Bolton team attack.   

This pressure was hard on the home team’s defence, with tackles flying from everywhere. Bolton pressed hard and opened the scoring 15 minutes into the game. Wigan immediately hit back with some great midfield play, attacking the opposition goal only to see their efforts saved by the goalkeeper.    

Wigan pressed hard to equalise and by doing so left gaps for Bolton’s forwards to capitalise. Bolton took full advantage and netted a 2nd just before the break.  Half-time score 0-2.   

2nd Half 

Wigan came out after the break and realised the game was not lost and pressed forward at every opportunity, with Ashley, Beth and Helena having chances only to be stopped by the Bolton goalkeeper.    

Bolton having numerous subs in second half looked the stronger and praise has to be given to Wigan’s defenders Lauren, Charlotte, Jessica and Fran who worked very hard to keep Bolton at bay.   

Wigan won a corner which was taken quickly and Charlotte Foley whipped the ball into the box this was missed by the Bolton defence and the ball ended up going straight in. It was only a matter time before gaps started appearing due to Wigan’s attempts to get on level terms, and 10 minutes before the end Bolton netted a 3rd to make it 1-3 to Bolton.   

Wigan can very pleased with the performance today all the girls worked extra hard having not trained or played for 5 weeks.

On a cold and frosty morning Wigan Athletic Ladies U15’s started the first half with a blistering run from Ashley Kearsley to open the score 1-0 to Wigan in the first minute. 

This was short lived as Bleakhill then attacked Wigan for the next 20 minutes with some neat foot work and equalised. 

Shortly after that a scramble in the box allowed Bleakhill in again to score. Wigan upped their game and made some great moves and forward runs, only to see their efforts saved by the goalkeeper. 

Wigan pressed hard to equal the score and by doing this they left gaps for the attacking players of Bleakhill to net a 3rd just before the break. 

Half-time score 1-3 to Bleakhill.

Wigan having no subs, made a swap of goalkeeper from Hannah Richardson to Rebecca Sheridan. 

This made a refreshing change to see Hannah Richardson play outfield for the first time since joining the team 5 seasons ago.

Wigan came out after the break and within minutes Hannah made an incredible run only to be called offside, clearly 2 yards on from our linesman.Wigan began to realise that this game was not lost and pressed forward at every opportunity, with Rachel and Beth having chances, only to be stopped by the Bleakhill goalkeeper.

Bleakhill having maximum subs to choose from used this to their advantage in the second half and looked the stronger team, praise has to be given to Wigan’s defensive unit of Lauren, Charlotte, Jessica and Fran who worked very hard to keep Bleakhill at bay.

The moment of the game came when a clever little chip put Lydia Ashton in front of the visitors defence only to be pushed off the ball on the edge of the box.  Free kick awarded and up stepped Charlotte Foley who’s great shot was struck just over the bar.

It was only a matter time before gaps started appearing and 10 minutes before the end Bleakhill netted a 4th.

Wigan can very pleased with the performance today all the girls worked extra hard having no subs today.

Match Report

Wigan Athletic Ladies U15’s started the first half as the previous game with some well worked moves and great passing between the midfield players.

 

Wigan’s defence stood strong and their attacking players put Burscough on the back foot and Wigan nearly scored when A.Kearsley volleyed the ball a foot past the post. 

Minutes later Wigan earned a corner and in form C.Foley stepped up to cross the ball and some how curved the ball straight into the Burscough goal to make it 1-0 to Wigan.

Wigan came out after the break and within minutes C.Hanlon had the Burscough defence in tatters and forced another corner.  Burscough scrambled to clear the corner but C.Hanlon managed to score to make it 2-0 to Wigan.

Wigan continued to dominate the game and this showed with some brilliant passing and defensive work from all the players today.

Burscough upped their game but Wigan stood firm and showed the hard work they have put in over the last few weeks.

Wigan made the Burscough defence work hard and they paid the price with a 25yrd shot from C.Hanlon to put Wigan up 3-0.

Wigan dominated the game from start to finish.

Manager M. Hull was impressed with the team performance today, all the players worked hard they deserved their first win of the season.

Match Report

On a wet and heavy pitch Wigan Athletic Ladies U15’s started the first half well and Town Green were put on the back foot.  Within minutes Wigan had a shot on goal which was saved by the goalkeeper.

Town Green upped there game and were awarded a free kick just outside the box, this was taken well and the shot was curled into the net to make it 1-0. 

A combination of passes opened up the Wigan defence and Town Green soon went 2-0 up. Town Green showed no resilience and scored again to make it 3-0 at half time.

Wigan came out fighting in the second half and despite the rain and a pitch that was deteriorating very quickly Wigan started the stronger.Some well work moves opened the Town Green defence for Wigan to press hard for an opportunity for a shot on goal which was again saved by the keeper. 

Town Green took advantage of Wigan’s attacking and broke the defence to make the score 4-0.  Wigan continued to dominate the midfield with some brilliant passing and threaded balls through to open up the Town Green defence and again Wigan missed chances. Moments later a threaded ball through from C. Foley set up B. Anderton to shoot into the net to make it

 Wigan tried to make a come back and showed great determination but it was not to be.The score line does not reflect how the Wigan Athletic U15’s team played.Manager M Hull praised the girls for a great performance.

Match Report

Wigan Athletic Ladies U15’s started the first half very well with great interchange of passes from C Hanlon, C Foley & B Anderton to set R Phillips off on a great run to open the score 1-0 after 3 minutes.

Wigan nearly scored minutes later when great passing work from the centre of midfield allowed F Rigby to float a looping ball over the top for A Kearsley to hit the post and run along the goal line. Birkdale were under pressure from Wigan for most of the first half and cleared the ball well after some well worked moves from Wigan.

Wigan pressed for a second goal after numerous chances from L Ashton, R Phillips and A Kearsley but the score remained the same at half time.

Birkdale came out fighting in the second half and despite the effort from a strong Wigan defence equalised.

Wigan continued to dominate the midfield with some brilliant passing and threaded balls through to open up the Birkdale defence.

Moment of the match came when L Ashton received a ball from C Foley on the left hand side L Ashton squared the ball in to B Anderton to shoot against the Birkdale keeper.  The keeper spilled the ball for B Anderton to take another shot however the Birkdale keeper then dived and missed the ball and took the legs of the striker (penalty not given).

Birkdale continued to press hard and some looping balls over the top put the Wigan defence under pressure.

Wigan conceded a couple of corners and an uncleared ball allowed Birkdale to shoot a ball over the top of the Wigan goalkeeper to go ahead 2-1.

 

Wigan tried to make a come back and the showed great determination but it was not to be.

The score line does not reflect how the Wigan Athletic U15’s team played.

Manager M Hull praised the girls for a great performance.
