Darwen Rangers took
the lead early in the
first half against the
run of play scoring
from a corner kick.
However, it was soon
all square again as
Wigan hit back when
Lydia Mills swept home
Jenny Preston's well
timed through ball.
Darwen came close on
a couple of occasions
but goalkeeper Chloe
Jordan put in another
brave display in the
Wigan goal, making a
string of top quality
saves. Wigan's defence
was solid with the two
Bethany's - Heaton and
Evans proving to be
a formidable partnership.
Wigan's midfield also
looked lively with Chloe
Brereton, Sarah Webster
and Jenny Preston putting
in excellent hardworking
performances.
Wigan could have scored
more but for the Darwen
goalkeeper denying striker
Lydia Mills' numerous
chances on goal.
Shannon Galvin (Jenny
Preston) almost put
Wigan ahead, her shot
on goal being just wide.
Eventually Wigan took
the lead in the second
half when Chloe Brereton
struck home the winner
with a superb 'Beckham-esque'
free kick.
Wigans defence had to
work hard as Darwen
pushed for the equaliser
with Alexandria Heaton
(Bethany Evans) making
some brilliant clearances.
Alicia Dean (Sarah Webster)
came onto the field
and gave a typical 100%
display.
Wigan were the worthy
winners of all three
points and battled well
to secure a home win
after a gritty performance
by Darwen Rangers. This
was a great team performance
with every girl on the
team giving their all.
Their win sees them
move up a place in the
table to fourth.
