1st half
Wigan made a great start to this game by attacking the Euxton defence from the off some great passing from Abbie and a neat controlled turn from Rebecca set up Charlotte for the first strike only to drift wide of the post. Goal kick out by the Euxton keeper was intercepted by Abbie to smash home the opening goal 1-0 to Wigan. Within minutes later a well worked ball from Caitlin, Leah set up Abbie for a great run down the wing to cross the ball in for charlotte to score the second 2-0 to Wigan.
One minute later Wigan grabbed a third when Jenny kicked a goal kick high up the pitch and Euxton tried to defend only to find Abbie at the edge of the box place the ball into the net 3-0 to Wigan.
Wigan continued to press Euxton and they showed great sprit and determination to clear the ball only to find at the end of there passing a Wigan defender or midfield at there feet.
This seemed make Wigan work hard to get a hold of the ball finally Steph won the ball passed to Leah then to Abbie, Rebecca for Charlotte to finish the move 4-0 to Wigan. Half time a minute away another good move saw Abbie shoot from outside the box score the goal only to be disallowed by the referee’s whistle (Half time)...
2nd Half
Wigan started as they finished the 1st half by pressing the Euxton defence Leah Charlotte and Katie all had good shots on goal forcing the Euxton keeper to make several excellent saves. Meanwhile in defence Caitlin Steph and Olivia all worked hard to stop any Euxton attack.
Eventually the Latics pressure told when half way through the second half Katie passed to Charlotte in space who beat the keeper to put Wigan 5-0 up.
Euxton continued working hard and Latics midfielders Rebecca, Charlotte and Leah did well to defend the attacking moves by Euxton.
Wigan continued at every opportunity passing and moving towards goal this set up charlotte up for her 4th to make 6-0 to Wigan. Again Wigan set off an attacking move passing the ball around this time it was Katie who putting the ball in the net 7-0 to Wigan. 2 minutes later Katie had another to finish off the game 8-0 to Wigan.
A good match played with determination and skill from both sides. Latics created plenty of chances with good passing and moving

After last weeks win against Crosby Wigan were again at home, this time against Birkdale hoping to secure another three points. An entertaining first half, not helped by a stiff breeze across the pitch saw both side battling hard to gain the upper hand.
Wigan’s defence of Leah and Olivia worked really well along with Charlotte, Rebbeca and Abbie in midfield to prevent Birkdale any clear cut chances and Jennie the goalkeeper made a good save from a Birkdale free kick.
Meanwhile at the other end Wigan made a couple of good chances of their own. Birkdales defence however showed equal determination in stopping Wigan with the Birkdale goalkeeper making several good saves.Charlotte then Abbie both went close, and it looked like honours would be even at half way. It was as the half drew to a close that Leah picked up the ball from a Birkdale corner and broke quickly downfield before coolly beating the keeper to give Wigan the lead on the stroke of half time.
Playing up the slope and with only a one goal advantage Wigan knew they would need to work hard to keep the lead. Birkdale pushed forward looking for an equaliser and the game opened up with Wigan playing some good passing football. Nadia and Katie both looked threatening up front and Charlotte, Abbie and Rebecca worked hard to create chances.
As in the first half the Birkdale keeper played very well to keep them out. Wigan’s second goal came from an unfortunate mix up by Birkdale after good pressure from Wigan lead to a backpass to the goalkeeper, the resulting free kick taken by Charlotte was prodded home by Abbie to make it two nil.
Both Wigan and Birkdale continued to play well but as the whistle went it was Wigan who took the three points.
A good game to watch played by two teams putting 100% effort in. Wigan play again on Wednesday and this win can only help their confidence going into that match away at Euxton.

After making it through to the League cup final last week Wigan were again in cup action this week against Burnley.
Wigan won the toss and chose to kick with the wind in the first half, a decision that seemed a good one as they started brightly making a number of good runs that Burnley did well to defend.
Leah Charlotte Katie and Abbie all had good shots on goal forcing the Burnley keeper to make several excellent saves. Meanwhile in defence Caitlin Steph and Olivia all worked hard to stop any Burnley counter.
Eventually the Latics pressure told when half way through the first half Katie passed to Charlotte in space who beat the keeper to put Wigan one up. Burnley continued working hard and Latics midfielders Rebecca and Leah did well to match them and help keep the lead till half time.
With Wigan playing the second half into the wind they faced a Burnley team very determined to get an equaliser and Latics found themselves working very hard in defence.
A great team effort kept Burnley out and it was Wigan who increased their lead when Leah broke down the right and crossed for Charlotte to grab her second of the game.
There were still lots of work to do as Burnley did not let their heads drop and continued to press forward. Wigan were now playing on the counter attack but with some good passing moves looked very dangerous.
Eventually Latics wrapped up the game after good work from Charlotte on the left saw her beat the defender and square the ball to Katie who slid home to make it 3-0 Wigan.
A good match played with determination and skill from both sides. Latics created plenty of chances with good passing and running and Manager Martin could be very pleased with the whole teams’ efforts.

Wigan took time off from their league fixtures this week to face TMS in the league cup semi final.
On a sunny afternoon Wigan started brightly and were one up within the first few minutes when Katie got on the end of a cross to poke home and settle any nerves the girls may have had. Katie soon made it two after good work through the midfield from Leah and Rebecca before Charlotte got in on the act to add a third.
Wigan continued to press but the TMS goalkeeper made several great saves coming out and diving bravely at the feet of on rushing Latics attackers. Eventually the pressure told and after hitting the post Wigan ended the half as they had begun with a goal from Leah to make it 4-0
TMS started the second half with renewed determination and Wigan had to be alert to a couple of dangerous breakaways before Leah added her second and Wigan’s 5th to the score line. Not long after, 5 became 6 as Charlotte got her second to make the game safe.
It is great credit to TMS that although the game was going away from them they continued to battle for every ball and went close themselves on two occasions with Jennie having to make a great finger tip save to put the ball over the cross bar.By now Wigan were growing in confidence and manager Martin was delighted to see them playing some great passing football and showing good movement off the ball. TMS were finding it more difficult to keep up with the pace and Latics were able to add four more goals through Katie, Abbie, Charlotte, and Katie again.
Unfortunately for TMS they met a Wigan team playing some very good football having a game in which they seemed unable to miss. Although both sides worked really hard Wigan had too much for TMS and could have won by more but for some very brave goalkeeping by the TMS number one.
Wigan can now look forward to a League cup Final at Burscough in April.

Having had the previous days game called off because of a poor pitch at Euxton Wigan were happy to get the go ahead for this home match against Athletico.
The first half was a fiercely contested affair with both teams playing some good football and both defending very well. Clear chances for either side were few and far between with Wigan’s biggest threat coming from several of Leah’s corners, one of which Olivia thumped against the bar before it stopped dead in the mud and was cleared.
Wigan had to stay alert as Athletico threatened to break away on a number of occasions, but good defending by Olivia, Caitlin, Steph and Leah managed to keep the Athletico attack out. Nadia did get free of the defence towards the end of the half but sent the ball just the wrong side of the post and the first half ended 0-0.
The second half continued in much of the same way as the first, with both teams showing great determination in defence and attack. Playing up the slope Wigan had to work very hard to get into attacking positions with Abbie, Rebecca and Katie all making big contributions. At the other end Athletico also made several chances, but Jennie in goal and the defenders in front of her, again kept them out.
The game looked to be heading for a hard fought draw until late in the half when Leah picked the ball up on the left. She worked inside and struck a shot from the edge of the area that the goalkeeper saved well but could only deflect it into the path of Katie who swept it in from close range.
There then followed a few tense minutes before the referee finally blew for full time to signal Wigan’s 11th league win of the season.
On a pitch that didn’t help, both teams played some good football and deserve credit for working so hard. Wigan edged it by the narrowest of margins and remain unbeaten in the league.
Girl of the match: Steph had a great game. |

Having played Burscough away last week in the cup, the first half of this game began in a similar way. Both sides fought to gain the advantage in a very well contested first ten minutes.
Eventually, after the ball had pinged around the Burscough area a couple of times Leah Foster was able to get a foot to it crashing a shot home to give latics the lead. Shortly after, the lead was doubled when good work by Charlotte in midfield put Nadia in the clear to coolly pass the ball into the net.
Wigan continued to play some great passing football but could not add to their tally. At half time Latics lead 2-0 just as they had the previous week in the cup game.
As the second half began Latics wasted no time in getting back on the attack, a quick goal kick from Jennie let Charlotte race down the wing and cross for Katie to make it 3 before Charlotte herself got on the score sheet after good work from Olivia and Abbie.
Wigan were now beginning to get on top but Burscough continued to work very hard and the Latics defence had to be at their best to stop some determined attacks with Jennie making one notable save at the feet of a Burscough striker.
More good passing from Wigan saw Abbie grab a fifth with a clever flick over the keeper that Katie followed in to make sure.
There was still time for Charlotte to score two more goals in a Player of the Match winning performance having returned from an illness which had seen her withdraw from last weeks match.
At the final whistle Wigan ran out 7-0 winners with Manager Martin delighted with the hard work and good football the whole team had shown. Everyone played well and continue to improve with each game.
The win means Latics remain top and unbeaten in the league. Next week is a rest week as it is half term. |

Wigan started to dominate the Burscough defence and had a couple of chances only to be stopped by the Burscough goalkeeper.
Wigan upped the pace and forced the first corner of the game. Leah crossed the ball and Abbie flicked the ball up over the Burscough Keeper 1-0 to Wigan.
Burscough re-started and straight from the kick off Katie challenged the Burscough midfield to win the ball. Some good passing from Rebecca and Abbie set Katie up for 2nd goal 2-0 to Wigan

After several postponed fixtures since Christmas Wigan were determined to do well in the first game of 2010.
1st Half
Playing down the slope in the first half they got off to a tremendous start with Abbie, Katie and Rebecca all having shots saved by a very good Preston goalkeeper. Midfield and defence worked very hard to keep a dangerous Preston side quiet, while Jennie in goal made two good saves when the defence was beaten. After a lot of pressure the deadlock was finally broken by Katie who swept in a volley from close range to make it 1-0 to Wigan.Good work from the midfielders Abbie and Nadia got Katie in for a second, making it 2-0 at the break. Playing up the slope in the second half it still left a lot for Wigan to do. Half-time: 2-0
2nd Half
The second half proved much more difficult for Wigan with Preston really pushing forward to get back into the game.Steph, Leah, Olivia and Caitlin did a great job of defending while Charlotte, Rebecca and the other midfielders worked hard to win the ball and threaten the Preston goal.Preston did eventually grab a goal after a good initial save by Jennie, who could do nothing as the PNE no.11 swept in a very good finish.Wigan could have let their heads drop after that setback but they didn’t and soon after Nadia restored the two goal lead with a good shot into the far corner. Full-time: 3-1 Overall, despite the less than perfect pitch it was a good game. Preston as we expected were a very good side but Wigan deserved the win.A good performance from the whole squad, with everyone working hard and playing good football.

A frosty Saturday morning saw Latics travel to Athletico for their final fixture of 2009 and their first in their new kit.
The first half was very entertaining with few chances as both side worked very hard to get control of the game.
The deadlock was finally broken for Wigan by Katie Evans who took a good pass from goalie Jennie Myler and beat two defenders before slotting home to the right of the keeper.
The rest of the half remained even with good defending by Leah, Chanel, Steph and Olivia keeping Latics in front.
Half-time: Athletico – 0 WALFC U10’s - 1
In the second half a close range effort by Katie after good work from the midfielders Abbie and Rebecca extended Latics lead to two nil but the game was far from over.
Athletico pushed forward much more in the second half but the Latics defence stayed organised, shouting and encouraging each other and keeping Athletico from getting any dangerous shots in.
The third goal came from a breakaway as Athletico attacked and Leah won the ball in her own box to go the length of the field and score.
It was then the turn of Nadia to score her first goal for Wigan when after good work from Olivia she beat the last defender and coolly finished to make it 4-0 Latics.
A good performance by the girls was rounded of when Olivia crashed in a long range shot to make it 5-0
It was great performance by the whole team against a very good Athletico side, with every player working very hard for their teammates and playing some very good football, long may it continue in 2010.
Girl of the Match went to Jennie Myler, who kept another clean sheet in goal.

Latics Girls u10's were keen to continue improving after last weeks 2-2 draw against Preston North End.
Latics started brightly and passed the ball around extremely well on a very, very muddy pitch. Early scoring chances fell to Charlotte Newsham, Jessica Mason and Phoebe Maloney but the Bury defence and goalkeeper held firm.
Despite all the pressure Latics created, it was Bury who took the lead, defender Leah Foster was upended and Bury somehow got the ball across the line.
latics didn't let their heads go down and solid defending from Leah Foster, Kiera Thomas and Ellie Dooney against the siege of attacks kept the score to 0- 1 at half time.
At half time the whole squad knew what was needed to get back into the game, passing, communication, drawing on the well established team spirit and of course smiles on faces.
Latics started the second half well and pressed going forwards with neat passing between Abigail Hull and Katie Evans in midfield, creating numerous shooting opportunities.
The pressure soon payed off with Latics opening their scoring through Charlotte Newsham, who with an exceptional turn broke free of the defence and fired her shot into the top left hand corner to bring the scores level.
The team gained further motivation from the goal and continued to press the away defence. Bury regained their composure and created their own chances to restore their lead, but to their dismay found Latics goalkeeper Jennifer Myler in terrific form.
Latics continued to defend and attack as a team, this unity lead to Latics taking the lead. Jessica Mason poked the ball home to give Latics all three points and their first and well deserved win of the season. |
