1st Half
The girls this week were looking to get back to winning ways and straight away were on the attack with a midfield of Charlotte, Lily and Maddy driving forward. The unusual partnership at the back of Olivia and Connie were showing their adaptability and remained strong in the tackle to ensure a clean sheet.
Maddy on the right was making some good passes and was working well with Charlotte who was as usual all over the pitch. Lily again, improves with every game and was ever strong in the tackle and willing to get forward and back in defence.
Amealia was looking to get in space to create the opening goal. It was Amealia who created the first goal when on the left side she played a superb ball across goal for Megan (on for Maddy) to easily slot the ball home. Charlotte went close for the second goal when hitting the cross bar with a fine shot. Vicky in goal was strong using her feet to get the ball away with long clearances on a couple of occasions. Half time score 1-0 to Wigan.
2nd Half
The defensive duo of Vicky and Georgina were now in place and this helped the girls in front to keep their shape better. Vicky was constantly driving the ball forward and making sure no-one was getting past her on the day, whilst Georgina was also strong with some fantastic positioning.
Maddy was in her favourite position of central midfield and was spraying the ball to the flanks for Lily and Charlotte. Lily went close to a deserved goal when a super shot just went wide.
It was Charlotte who created the second goal for Megan to coolly finish past the keeper. Megan also got the third with a fantastic solo effort to beat two defenders to get her hat-trick. Maddy then created the final goal with superb vision to find Megan again for her fourth goal.
Amealia was showing her confidence in goal when twice coming to collect the ball in dangerous positions and her kicking out was superb.
Olivia and Connie now came onto the left and right wing, both continued with their strong first half performance, Connie on the right had some great runs that troubled the defenders, Olivia on the left was looking to get onto the score sheet again with some strong passing and shots on goal.
Final score 4-0. A good result against an ever improving Lionesses side who constantly got lots of players behind the ball to make the Wigan girls work hard.
Player of the match went to Vicky who was solid in both halves in goal and defence. In the second half she constantly drove the ball forward making the right decisions and sending out some superb passes to midfield and attack.

1st Half
The girls this week faced an ever improving Canaries team that pushed them all the game. Charlotte, Lily and Connie started in midfield and were keen to get their foot on the ball to gain control of the match. At the back Georgina continued to hit long through balls up to the midfield and also keep a good defensive line.
The right back was shared between Olivia and Maddy, who despite little experience in the position were both rock solid in defence and used their midfield knowledge to get some fine passes away. First goal was created from a beautiful pass from Charlotte to put Megan clear to slot home.
Megan also got the second goal with another cool strike. Vicky in goal had little to do to keep a clean sheet. Connie and Amealia shared the right flank duties and both were full of running and Amealia was particularly unlucky with a couple of fine shots that just went wide.
Lily was full of her usual energy and putting in some fine tackles. Charlotte was all over the midfield constantly breaking up Aspull attacks in getting Wigan forward. Half time score 2-0.
2nd Half
Second half Megan was in goal and was called upon to make a couple of saves, which she did with ease. Maddy now in midfield got the first goal when a well thought quick throw in from Connie put her in the clear to slot home.
Amealia scored the fourth goal in her more accustomed position of striker, when a lovely weighted pass from Maddy put her in a goal scoring position. Vicky was now in defence and getting forward at every opportunity and struck a thundering shot that shuddered the post and unluckily came out.
Georgina played another solid half and then Lily took over at left back with some more good play. On the left Olivia was now playing some excellent football, winning every tackle and pushing forward when possible. Maddy scored the next goal when her well taken corner kick was deflected off a defender into the goal.
Connie was now also on top of her game on the right flank and started the move of the match when a lovely pass down the right flank found Charlotte up front. Charlotte took it to the dead ball line, beat the defender and passed into the middle for Olivia to hit the ball first time sweetly into the back of the net. Simple passing - wonderful to watch! Charlotte who was now striker went close late on to getting another goal. Final score 6-0.
Player of the match went to Olivia for an all round performance in defence, midfield and attack. She continued her good form from the previous week to show she is back to her best and up there with the top midfielders |

1st Half
The girls faced a tough Mill Hill side this week in a game that was expected to be hard and turned out to be so. Olivia, Charlotte and Lily were taking hold of the midfield.
Olivia was playing exceptionally well and her defensive skills were being tested all the time from the dangerous Mill Hill No.5. Lily and Charlotte were trying to spread the ball about to force Mill Hill back.
At the back the defensive rocks of Georgina and Vicky were busier than normal and showed their ever improving partnership is difficult to get past. Even so the Mill Hill girls had a couple of shots on goal, which Maddy saved brilliantly and looked safe at all times.
The first goal came after a fantastic pass from Olivia that found Charlotte in space and a first time shot was hit low to the bottom right corner, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance.
Megan was rewarded for her non-stop running when she received another pass from Olivia to again finish coolly with a sweet strike to the corner. Megan nearly scored a couple more only for the goalkeeper to save which left the score at 2-0 at half time.
2nd Half
Mill Hill came out fighting and despite early pressure from Wigan got the next goal to make it 2-1 to set the parents nerves on edge. However, Maddy and Connie in midfield were now taking control and started to drive the team forward.
Connie did one brilliant piece of tracking back when after losing the ball she turned and continued chasing the full length to win the ball back. Amealia upfront was a bundle of energy and a great improvement with her movement and turning to cause the Mill Hill problems all the half.
Lily was continuing to work hard on the left and continued showing that she is one of the hardest tackles at this level. Maddy was rewarded when a kick from the goalkeeper landed at her feet for her to drive the ball forward and hit a swift shot into the back of the net.
Wigan were now on top, with the defensive duo of Georgina and Vicky trying to get in on the act. Georgina hit the cross bar and Vicky had a long range shot that was saved. Charlotte was now back on on the left and straight away got at the Mill Hill defence, she hit a fine shot that struck the cross bar and was deflected off a defender and into the back of the net.
In goal, Olivia had bravely volunteered against our most dangerous opponents and made a couple of good saves to keep Wigan on top. It was Mill Hill who had the last goal with a great strike to leave Olivia no chance to leave the final score a 4-2.
A great game to watch with both sides playing a high standard of football with excellent passing and 100% commitment from both sets of players. The tackles were really flying in from both sets of girls wanting to win.
Player of the match went to Charlotte for all round busy performance and excellent vision. Her passing this week was exceptional along with fantastic positioning in midfield to break up from the Mill Hill attacks. |

1st Half
Despite an early start the girls enthusiasm was as high as ever in a tight fought first half. Maddy was showing her goalkeeping skills to keep a clean sheet in this half. At the back Georgina and Vicky were looking for every opportunity to get forward, it was Georgina in rich vein of goal scoring form who got the opener, with another stunning left foot strike into the roof of the net.
Charlotte, Lily and Connie were all working hard to get forward to get the next goal, but were being kept at bay by a fine goalkeeping performance from the Astley keeper. Amealia and Megan split the half between them but could not get on the score sheet as Astley battled hard. Half time 1-0 to Wigan.
2nd Half
The second half belonged to Wigan with some fantastic passing and great football to watch. Charlotte was now in goal and continued on from Maddy to keep Astley at zero. Vicky was sending some long through balls down into midfield to get the girls forward.
Georgina was defending strongly with some well timed tackles. It was however, Maddy in the middle of the park that was making a difference she layed on the first two goals with fantastic through balls. Both goals were finished ruthlessly by Amealia upfront who continues to be deadly in front of goal. Next goal was a super left foot strike from Lily. Connie was also working hard on the right and chasing back to defend well.
The fifth goal was the best of the match with Maddy running ¾’s the length of the pitch and then laying a pass off to Megan to slot home. Megan managed to get her second goal after a great pass from Lily to make the final score 6-0 to Wigan.
Player of the match went to Maddy for a fantastic second half performance that was full of running, vision and lots of skill. Her weight of passes and decision making was a joy to watch. |

1st Half
Due to no league fixtures this week a friendly was arranged with St Helens JFC U10’s, who have recently joined the older league.
Wigan girls were not phased by playing the older girls with the midfield trio of Connie, Maddy and Lily getting control of the game. Connie was causing major problems down the right flank with her direct running. It was from her pass across the goal that resulted in Amealia knocking the first goal in after a rebound from the goalkeeper.
The game was now end to end with both teams battling hard. Vicky and Flossie were staying strong, getting lots of blocks and tackles in due to the St Helens attack they were not able to get as forward as previous weeks. Vicky cleared two goal line efforts using her long body to block the shots. Georgina in goal was using her long kicks to clear the St Helens frontline, which enabled the girls to gain advantage. Maddy went on a run and played a superb ball to Amealia who had found great space away from the defender, she confidently slotted the ball home to make the score 2-0.
2nd Half
Charlotte was now in midfield and was trying to get the girls forward looking for the third goal with Connie still looking dangerous on the right flank. Georgina was showing her flexibility by slotting into left midfield and used her strong shooting power to attack the goal. The defence of Vicky and Flossie were continuing to be strong in the tackle and also Georgina who dropped back into defence. Both Vicky and Flossie had to get good clearances in to keep St Helens at bay. From a beautiful pass from Charlotte, Megan was in her usual position to slot the ball home low and hard and passed the keeper to make the keeper 3-0.
Credit to the St Helens girls who didn’t let their heads drop and came fighting back with stunning right foot strike (No.7) to leave Lily with no chance in goal. They also had another shot which was going in the top left corner until Lily superbly tipped it over the bar.
Megan was causing the defenders trouble with her trickery and finding space from Charlottes passes she also forced the goalkeeper to make a save from one of her shots. Maddy now came back on and immediately got on the score sheet with a looping shot over the keeper (possibly over the bar) for the referee to award a disputed goal.
Once again the St Helens girls came back to score another great goal (No 6) just before the finish to make the final score 4-2.
Player of the match went to Connie for a great all round performance of running, power and skill. A great improvement on her positioning whilst keeping her head up to cause none stop problems to the St Helens defence all game.
This was a great game played in good spirit with generous appreciation from both sets of parents and coaches. |

Georgina and Vicky at the back were playing well together with both girls getting some fantastic passes in to get the girls on the attack and importantly keeping Aspull scoreless. Lilly got the last goal of the half with a sweet right foot shot that left the goalkeeper no chance. Half time score 8–0 to Wigan.
2nd Half
Lilly carried on in the second half to notch her hat-trick with another sweet right foot shot. Connie was now in midfield after her goal keeping stint in the first half and was doing some strong runs down the right wing and also strong defending.
Megan showed her predatory skills to notch in another goal for 10-0. Maddy in central midfield was controlling things and spraying some nice passes left and right, she was rewarded for her hardwork with a right foot shot to take it to 11-0.
The next two goals were both scored from defender, Georgina, with her trusty left foot, the first goal was an absolute screamer into the top corner. Amealia had now recovered from her blow in the first half and came back on to score the last two goals to take her tally to 5 for the game.
Olivia had now slotted in to defence for Vicky and was showing her strength in tackling and lovely passing down the right wing. Charlotte in goal ensured the second half was also scoreless for the opposition with some assured goalkeeping.

Connie was working hard on the right to get the girls on the attack. At the back Georgina and Vicky were mopping up any danger from the Aspull girls. Georgina was extremely strong getting some long range passes down the lines.
Megan in goal did a couple of good clearances with her trusty right foot. The Aspull girls were really making a fight for it and showing a much improved performance. Amealia showed her predatory skills notching two more goals before half time. Half time score 4–0 to Wigan.
2nd Half
In the second half Olivia and Charlotte were working together in midfield, Olivia was getting some great strong runs in on the right hand side and was unlucky not to set Charlotte up with a great cross from the right hand side. Georgina continued to be strong with Flossie at her side in defence and Amealia was now in goal ensuring the girls kept a clean sheet.
The Aspull girls were really committed going forward and looking for the elusive goal, with their No. 18 especially strong. Vicky had now come on into midfield, replacing Connie and was unlucky when a goal bound shot was cleared off the line.
Charlotte went close again and was just unable to connect from two great crosses from Olivia and Megan. Two goals for the second half came from in form striker Megan, who finished both goals with her usual coolness. Final score 6-0 to Wigan.
Player of the match went to Georgina who was strong and solid all game in defence and is now improving her through balls to the midfield. She showed she was comfortable both right back and left back using both feet with good effect. |

The girls had to rearrange their line up with Mill Hill having only 6 players due to illness. The midfield duo of Charlotte Evans and Olivia Powell were working hard to cover the extra space and closed down the strong Mill Hill girls. At the back Vicky Johnson & Flossie Jones were defending well and closing down the Mill Hill attackers who constantly threatened with their pace.
Maddy Cullin showed her goalkeeping skills to keep the opposition out. Her long kicks were an advantage for the Wigan girls and put them on the attack on numerous occasions. Amealia Parker was working hard up front but getting very little change out of the Mill Hill defence.
Charlotte Evans was unlucky when on one to one with the goalkeeper she shot straight at her with the keeper making a good save. Wigan created the most chances but were unable to get on the score sheet and half time ended 0-0.
2nd Half
The second half saw a complete change of team for Wigan which first upset the girls rhythm and it was Mill Hill who got on top with a quick goal with the Wigan defence in disarray.
After a few uncomfortable minutes the midfield of Lily Butcher and Maddy Cullin started taking control with Lily being exceptionally strong in the tackle, which took its toll on the Mill Hill girls.
Despite her pre match 2nd half nerves Flossie Jones was fantastic in pulling off a couple of brave saves to keep the score at 1-0 to Mill Hill. Connie Ridpath and Georgina Burns were now looking strong and playing well as a partnership in defence. Connie Ridpath however, took a very heavy fall and had to leave the field with Vicky Johnson coming back on in defence.
The last 10 minutes completely belonged to the Wigan girls, with goal machine Megan McKinnel absolutely unplayable through skill, movement and pace she grabbed herself 4 goals with clinical cool finishing, she was ably assisted with Maddy Cullin adding a great strike and a couple of fantastic passes to Megan McKinnel.
Final score 5–1 to Wigan. An outstanding result against a very strong and resolute Mill Hill who are improving every time Wigan play them and have proved to be the danger team.
Player of the match went to Megan McKinnell who’s goal scoring and movement turned the game in the last 10 minutes. She now has 29 goals for the season, which is outstanding.
All the girls should be congratulated on an outstanding team performance in both halves and didn’t let their heads drop when under real pressure from the opposition. |

The usual source provided the first goal when a pass from Charlotte went to the deadly striker Megan who slotted it home.
The midfield trio of Lilly, Charlotte & Maddy were completely controlling the game and giving Aspull no time to settle in the game.
It wasn't a long wait for the second goal when a lovely weighted pass from Maddy found Megan with the usual result and the score was 2-0.
After a succesion of corners Wigan got their third goal, Charlotte took the corner and the ball came back to her from a defender, she quickly looked up and curled the ball into the top corner with a fantastic strike.
Maddy deservedly got the next goal with a low right foot shot that flew into the bottom corner to make it 4-0. At the back Flossie & Georgina (Captain) were both as solid as usual, Georgina continued her good form with some strong passes out to the midfield.
Flossie is also improving with her vision and passing, no longer is she just booting the ball upfield, she also went close to scoring her first goal with a fine strike that just skimmed past the post.
Goalkeeper in the first half, Vicky, had a couple of saves to do and showed the value of having a keeper with a strong kick to get the girls on the attack.
The rest of the first half was the Charlotte, Megan & Maddy show. Various passes from Charlotte & Maddy were constantly fed to Megan. She repaid this by slotting in 4 more goals to make it 6 for herself and a half time score-line of 8-0.
Georgina went into goal for the second half and had a quiet half due to the excellent defence in front of her.
Amealia came on in attack and scored the next two goals with cool finishes, both these goals were contributed by Maddy's vision and passing.
Olivia was now on in midfield and was bustling the Aspull girls with her strong defensive tackles. She showed her attacking skills by scoring the next goal with once again another pass provided by Maddy to go 11-0.
Lilly was rewarded for her hard work in both halves when scoring the 12th goal, a lovely little pass from Amealia with Lilly firing the ball home.

Credit to the Aspull girls who kept going all through the game, especially the goalkeeper who despite the large score made some great saves.
Wigan player of the match could have gone to a number of players as it was a superb all round performance.
Maddy however, had a superb game with fantastic passing, tackling and a great improvement on her positional play (dads training). For this effort she was deservedly player of the match.
Well done girls - keep it going ! |

The girls continued their great start to the season with a convincing 6-1 win, which warmed the girls up for the afternoon's 5 a-side tournament. Making her first appearance in goal, Flossie (Captain) ensured that the girls did not let any goals in in the first half. She made some assured kicks out of goal which put the girls on the attack.
Georgina and Vicky lined up again in defence and were their usual strong effective partnership. Georgina was particularly strong with some great left foot passes down the wing. It was from one of Georgina's passes that got Wigan their first goal. A deep ball out of defence got Amealia on the attack and she slotted home to make the score 1-0.
Charlotte was bossing the midfield from the centre and spraying some lovely passes wide to Lilly, who was playing wide left and to Megan upfront. Megan as expected continued her goal scoring run to get the second goal of the game to make it 2-0. Despite Lilly and Amealia causing problems down the wings the scoreline stayed 2-0 at half time.
Flossie started the second half in her more accomplished position in defence, her strong tackling was keeping the Aspull girls at bay. Olivia, Connie & Maddy were now driving the girls forward from midfield. Connie & Maddy showed how they were adapting to the game by swapping from left to right wing.
Alice proved again what a dangerous striker she can be by scoring the next 3 goals for Wigan, when she scores she only scores hat-tricks! Her goals were scored with some super balls from Maddy and Olivia. Olivia grabbed her first goal of the season to make the score 6-0, this goal has been coming for the last few weeks with Olivia getting some great long strikes in. Megan had swapped her goal scoring role to goalkeeper and looked assured whenever the girls came under attack.
The Aspull girls got their reward for not letting their heads drop when they scored a late consolation goal to make the final score 6-1. This score could have been greater had it not been for the Aspull keeper being in fine form.
Today's performance was a good all round team effort with the girls now learning each week the importance of keeping their positions and defending in numbers aswell as attacking. Player of the match this week went to Georgina who is ever improving on the left side of defence, her confidence is growing and shows in the long range passes that she is now constantly doing. Well done girls another great win, keep it up |

Wigan took the lead within the first 5 seconds of the game, when straight from the kick off Megan fired in a long range shot to go 1-0 in front. This only acted to fire the Mill Hill girls into action as they bossed the midfield and most of the first half. The defence of Vicky and Georgina were trying to stem the none stop attacks of Mill Hill. The midfield trio of Lilly, Charlotte and Maddy were firing shots on goal only for the keeper to keep them at bay. It was however Mill Hill that scored the next 3 goals to go in at half time with a 3–1 lead. This could have been greater only for Alice making a couple of important saves.
The second half proved a complete turnaround with the Wigan girls coming out looking to take control. Amealia up front got Wigan back into the game when beating 3 players to score. Olivia, Charlotte & Alice were now showing their strength in midfield and giving Mill Hill less room to work in. Amealia grabbed her second goal to take the score to 3-3. Wigan kept up the pressure to go in front as a swinging corner from Charlotte was deflected into goal. Vicky and Flossie were defending bravely to keep the lead intact. Maddy made at least 4 outstanding saves in goal to keep Wigan in front. Charlotte scored the 5th when a shot from Amealia was saved only for Charlotte to slot the ball home, for a finishing scoreline of 5-3 to Wigan.
This was a great game to watch and the first time this season that the girls have been stretched to the limit. A great second half team performance dragged them back into the game and didn’t allow their heads to drop when 3-1 down.
The girls ensured that they have kept their unbeaten start to the season and know how to come back from losing. Today’s tough game will make them ready for next weekends 5 a-side tournament. |

On a wet morning the girls gained another good win with a tight fought game against Astley & Tyldesely. The girls played 6 a-side and won 3-1 in a game that was exciting to watch.
The game was a close contest with both teams trying to get on top in the opening minutes. Connie was full of running and covering a lot of ground in her midfield position. Lilly was also busy in midfield and was getting in some strong challenges and not allowing herself to be pushed off the ball. At the back Vicky and Georgina were in fantastic form. In the words of Cal they were inpenetreteable (don't ask Flo to text this word ). Both girls were strong in the tackle and also got the girls going forward. Georgina looks more comfortable with every game she plays at the back and was making some great decisions on when to run the ball from defence and when to play simple passes.
Vicky was using her long legs to good effect with maruading runs down the right flank that was causing the Astley midfield and defence problems. Every run was rewarded with an attacking position or a throw in for the girls. Olivia was making her debut in goal and ensured she kept a clean sheet at the first time of asking.
The first goal of the game came from a usual source, Megan (Captain), when a loose ball came out from the keeper she used her predatory instinct to slot the ball home. As every good striker does she is watching for any opportunity to slot the ball in the net.
The second goal was another for Megan with a fantastic piece of individual skill. In front of goal she was surrounded by 2 defenders and the goalkeeper, with a subline drag-back she created enough space to coolly slot the ball in for a 2-0 scoreline.
The girls were now on top and had a number of corners where they tried for the next goal. Connie and Lilly were taking some powerful corners and bossing the midfield. The third goal was a superb effort of teamwork and passing. Vicky passed the ball out of defence to Connie on the right wing. Connie with her head up played a fantastic ball down the wing to Megan who had made space for the pass. Megan controlled and laid a pass back into the middle were Connie had continued her run. With coolness Connie slotted the ball home to make the haf time score 3-0.
Olivia and Charlotte came into midfield in the second half and Alice slotting into the striker role. Olivia soon got warmed up after her cold spell in goal. She got the girls driving forward with some great passes. Charlotte was showing no signs of her previous night sleepover with some energetic running. Both these girls were reading the game brilliantly and getting back to help the defence and cover any breaks that the Astley team made.
Vicky and Georgina continued with their fine first half performance before being replaced by Lilly and Megan. Charlotte was sent flying in a tackle to win a free kick just outside the box. She went close when she whipped the ball in and it just flying wide. She then played a super ball to Alice who let a shot rip on goal. It was only a fantastic save from the keeper that denied Wigan their 4th goal.
Connie played the second half in goal and made some great saves with her feet. Just as it looked when they could keep another clean sheet the Astley girls struck with a well deserved late goal. The whistle was blown soon after for a final score 3-1 to Wigan.
The player of the match this week was a very hard decision. This was due to all the girls performing as a team. Connie got the award for an outstanding midfield display in the first half. By listening in training she now plays with her head up, making great passes and covering lots of ground when defending. Well done to Connie and to all the girls for another great team performance. |

The girls continued there run of good form with an 8-0 win over a much improved Aspull Lionesses. With Vicky & Maddy missing with illness the girls had to play in different positions to gain this win.
The midfields from both teams were battling away to get control of the game in the early minutes. Charlotte on the left got the first shot of the match on target only for the Aspull keeper to make a fantastic diving save, she did however get a superb through ball to Alice who finished superbly for her first goal of the season.
Olivia (Captain) was getting on top in midfield with her strong tackling and running and Amealia was full of running out wide on the right. At the back Flossie showed her versatility by moving to the right side to allow Georgina to play on the left. This defensive pair played excellent together with Georgina getting in some driving runs down the left and some fantastic passes. Flossie was getting forward for corners and came close to scoring her first goal after a strike from Charlotte's pass.
Lilly had volunteered to go in goal first half and got strong kicks away to help the defence, she looked strong and composed in the keeper position. Alice was now looking dangerous upfront, her new found confidence enabled her to score the next two goals with great composure for her first hat-trick. This made the score 3-0 at half time.
In the second half the girls really excelled with an excellent performance. Connie was now at the back and was strong and solid in attack and defence. Alice was still continuing to work hard upfront and was constantly searching for her fourth goal before having a rest and Amealia coming back into the fold. Charlotte had now gone into goal with Lilly moving to the left side of midfield. It was Lilly who got the first goal of the second half when a great through ball from Megan left her one on one with the keeper. A cool finish made the score 4-0.
It was Amealia who scored the next goal after Megan went on a great run and saw her shot come off the post, Amealia was following up to slot the ball cooly into the corner.
Olivia had now took over the corners from the right hand side and was unlucky when picking Flossie out from the edge of the box that was nearly a great move. Olivia then hit a rasping shot from outside the box and looked like it was going in the top corner, only for the cross bar to deny her a fantastic goal. Lilly was now busy in midfield and sent a superb through ball for Megan to continue her strike rate to make it 6-0.
At the back Georgina was back on and now enjoying her best game of the season, with fantastic tackling and great through balls with her strong left foot. She is now realising that playing in defence can be enjoyable. Flossie was also getting more forward than usual and showing how comfortable she is on the ball.
Lilly secured her second goal of the game with another great strike from her right foot to make the score 7-0. She had also took over corner duties on the left hand side and was swinging them in with great power. It was Amealia who got the last goal of the game with another firm strike to make the score 8-0, she is now showing the midfield role is suited to her strong running and none stop appetite for the game.
Connie continued to be strong at the back with some fantastic challenges. Charlotte in goal had very little to do and had to concentrate more on keeping warm than on the game.
This weeks player of the match was very difficult to pick with every girl playing extremely well, close to winning this week was Olivia and Georgina. The award went to Alice for an absolute fantastic first half performance, she has shown a steady improvement over the weeks and this is a great reward for a girl with a fantastic attitude.
This was a very good all round performance and nice to see all the girls smiling and enjoying themselves in whatever positions they played in. They are now all maturing into team players as well as having good individual skills. |

The girls were keen to impress this week with Cal back in charge. They did not disappoint today with an emphatic 8-1 win, which again showed their experience against another developing team.
The opening 10 minutes was a close affair with the midfield of Olivia, Maddy and Charlotte trying to impose themselves on the game. Upfront Megan went close with a shot that the goalkeeper did well to save. It was Maddy who scored the first goal of the game, a shot from Megan came off the defender with Maddy following up to strike the goal in with a deflection. This goal seemed to relax the girls.
Vicky was stretching the opposition with some striding runs out of defence to get the girls on the attack. She let rip with one shot that just flew past the post. Georgina was getting in some strong tackles and releasing the ball down the left wing. Flossie came on in defence and continued her strong partnership with Vicky.
Megan continued her hot streak by scoring the second goal after a fantastic through ball from Charlotte. Maddy then scored goal number three with a super left foot strike and added number four with a right footed strike (grandma now in tears - at her first game).
Olivia was a driving force in midfield and once again went close with a stunning strike from outside the box. Charlotte was showing fantastic vision with a full array of passes and dangerous corners, she has now turned goal provided aswell as scorer.
Our new goalkeeper this week was Alice, who bravely volunteered for both halves. She was confident in this position and got some great kicks out to her team mates. First half finished 4-0.
Second half continued with Connie and Lilly in midfield and Amealia upfront. Lilly was working hard on the right wing and played a super ball through to Connie who struck the ball first time to make the score 5-0. Amealia was busy upfront and constantly keeping the defenders on their toes, she scored the next goal with a stunning strike from outside the box to make it 6-0, this shows how her power has improved to score this type of goal.
Charlotte was continuing to run the show and her passes really opened the game up. Vicky and Flossie at the back were as solid as usual. Flossie was getting more forward as the game went on and showing confidence on the ball.
Connie scored her second goal of the game with another great strike, this was reward for a second half display of confident dribbling and shooting. Maddy came back on into defence and Georgina into midfield to continue the good work. Georgina was now using her left foot down the left wing with some good passes.
At this stage the Aspull girls fought well and were rewarded when their number 9 hit a super goal that left Alice with no chance of saving. Up to this point Alice had been fantastic by kicking the ball away when Aspull were attacking.
The last goal of the game went to Lilly, who got clear on goal and beat the keeper with a lovely left footed strike. This ended the game with a 8-1 scoreline.
Player of the match this week went to Maddy, this is just reward for scoring hat-tricks two weeks in succession. Her first half display was fantastic to watch. She's not just scoring, her tackling is good and movement off the ball is something that the other girls can learn from. Well done to all for another fine display. Keep up the good work and keep listening and working hard at training.

Wigan continued their good start to the season with an impressive 7-0 win against Aspull. The first half performance was a joy to watch for all the parents and friends.
The first half midfield trio of Maddy, Amealia and Charlotte were absolutely outstanding for all the first half. They were tackling , passing and working so well together. Amealia had her best game of the season with some fantastic running down the right wing and getting in some wonderful passes that were causing havoc to the Aspull defence. Charlotte was controlling everything from the centre of the field, either a tackle or a pass are done with great awarenes for a girl so young.
Maddy is now progressing in her midfield role and is looking at ease with the ball at her feet. She is another girl who got stuck into the tackles but was also aware of what space was available to her and her team mates. Her hardwork was rewarded with 2 super goals.
Our lone striker was Megan (Captain) who again proved her confidence is on a high. She showed everybody her skills with 4 stonking goals in the first half. This was clinical finishing and shows she now gets in the right position to take advantage of all the other girls hardwork. At the back Flossie came in for her first match of the season and reminded everybody what a tough little defender she is who is always in the right place. Alongside her Georgina was assured in her tackling and clearances with her trusty left foot. In goal for the first half was 'happy' Vicky who was only called on a couple of times due to great defending in front of her from Flossie and Georgina.
The second half was a much closer game with the Aspull girls responding fantastically from the first half. It was however Maddy who scored first with a fantastic low strike to hit her third goal of the game, she was also unlucky not to get her 4th with a shot that flew over the bar.
Connie and Vicky were now in defence and looking solid at the back. Vicky was spreading the ball out of defence and made one super pass to Alice up front. Connie moved from defence into midfield with ease and continued to work hard throughout the game. Olivia had now taken over the central midfield role and was bossing the game. She went close to scoring twice with two great strikes that just flew past the post with the keeper beaten. Georgina came back on to slot into midfield. Her spell in defence will now help her improve in this position and she was getting some strong tackles in.
Alice was busy working hard upfront and is another girl who is improving with more game time. She nearly scored with only a timely tackle from an Aspull girl denying her a clean strike on goal.
This weeks player of the match was a close call with Amealia, Maddy and Megan all being in with a shout. It went however to Charlotte. This shows that despite not scoring she was a constant threat and set up a number of goals with some fantastic passes. Well done girls keep up the good start to the season.

Match Report |

Wigan played their first away match of the season against Astley & Tyldesely at LSV. They found this to be a harder game than the first week, but still came away with a well earned 2-0 victory. The tackles were flying in this week and the girls are now aware of what it takes to win each week.
Connie was getting in some great tackles in her midfield holding roll and for the second week on the trot was playing in a new position. This did not stop her from doing some excellent defensive work and getting the ball going forward. Lilly and Charlotte were working hard in midfield in both defence and attack. Charlotte was having some great little runs to get the girls attacking. Vicky and Georgina were ensuring the Astley girls did not get any chances on goal with some strong challenges and good passes out of defence. It was Georgina who set up the first goal with a fantastic pass out of defence that put Megan in the clear. With only the goalkeeper to beat there was only going to be one result with Megan in this form and it was 1-0 to Wigan.
Charlotte was the next to provide a lovely pass to Megan after winning another ball in midfield. Again, Megan was met with only the goalkeeper to beat. This was put away with the coolness of a top class attacker and it was two goals to Megan and 2-0 to Wigan.
Maddy came on to replace Lilly who was struggling with her new boots. Maddy settled in straight away and got involved in some great tackles and was strong in running the ball forward. Amealia was called on in goal when the Astley striker got through the defence and came bearing down on the goal. Amealia made a super decision to come off her line and clear the ball with a fantastic kick downfield. This ensured the girls went in at half time with a well deserved 2-0 lead.
The second half was a much closer game with the Astley girls being tiggerish in there tackles. Charlotte was giving everything and was having a great battle in midfield with the Astley midfielder. No inch was given by either girl and it was great to watch the commitment of both girls. Alice was now up front and was soon getting involved in the action. With more time on the pitch she will become a great asset to the club.
Maddy was showing her ability now with some lovely touches to go past the Astley girls and getting in some great challenges. At the back Vicky and Connie were strong as usual to ensure that Astley had no shots on goal to trouble Georgina. Amealia after her stint in goal was now back in her midfield role. She was getting forward to trouble the defence with her fast and direct running. A great shot on goal went just past the post. Lilly came back on to the pitch and slotted into defence with Vicky. She is now showing that she is able to slot into different positions and got in some fantastic and brave tackles. Megan also came back on and was always looking for that third goal.
This weeks player of the match went to Megan. This was deserved for her 2 fantastic goals in the first half. In this confident form she will trouble a lot a defenders this season. The girls should also be pleased that this is the second game that they have not conceded a goal. This shows how well they are all working for each other and getting bodies behind the ball. The defence is just as important in winning the games as well as scoring the goals.
Well done Girls keep it up for when Flo & Cal are back. |

Match Report |
|
On a sunny Wigan morning the U9's got their season off to a flyer with a 6-0 win over a young Mill Hill side. The team got into an early lead to settle the nerves of players and most importantly the coach. It was Amealia who opened the scoring when a ball was whipped in from the left for Amealia to toe poke it home.
The midfield trio of Olivia, Amealia and Charlotte were working hard in defence to give the Mill Hill girls no time on the ball to settle. The back duo of Vicky and Georgina ensured that any breaks from Mill Hill was quickly sorted and got the girls on the attack straight away. Lily up front was a constant threat with her speed and willingness to chase down the ball. The pressure paid off when Charlotte made the score 2-0 with a super strike. Megan had volunteered to go in goal and was only called on once to make a fine save to keep the half time score at 2-0.
In the second half the girls confidence was souring and this showed in the way they passed the ball around. The girls quickly made it 3-0 with Maddy scoring on her debut, this was practically her first touch on the ball. She continued to play well and will only improve with this game under her belt.
Charlotte and Megan were now working well together and the combination provided the next 3 goals. Charlotte's second was a superb strike from outside the box, which went in the top corner giving the goalkeeper no chance of stopping. Megan showed why she was last years second highest goal scorer by being in the right place for both of her goals. At the back Connie came on to play in an unfamiliar position, this didn't show as she broke forward with some great runs and was unlucky at a corner when she struck the ball superbly, only for the goalkeeper to make a fine save.
Vicky also made one of her long striding runs down the left and let go with a stinging right foot shot that the goalkeeper saved and tipped onto the post. Georgina had volunteered to go in goal and saved at least two goals despite the sun being in her eyes. Her strong kicks out enabled the girls to attack quickly and at speed. Amealia and Lily both came back on and continued the good work from the first half. Lily did well slotting in defence as this is a position she has never played before.
Overall this was a fantastic team performance, the passing and vision of the girls was superb. This shows they have all listened at training. Player of the match went to Charlotte. This was reward for a fantastic all round performance. She was none stop in both attack and defence with also the extra reward of two fantastic goals. Well done to all the girls for a super start to the season
Also well done to the Mill Hill girls. Despite going behind early in the game they never gave up and will only get stronger as the season continues. |
